French 19th Century Copper Wine Measure (Demi Hectolitre - 50 Litres)

Here is a lovely antique French Demi Hectolitre copper container for wine. Has a capacity of half an hectolitre, which is approximately 50 liters. This type of container is specifically designed for storing or aging wine. A terrific vessel or container to be used in many different ways or converted into a side table.

Made in France. Circa 1850.

Copper has been historically used in winemaking due to its excellent thermal conductivity and antimicrobial properties. It can help regulate temperature and provide a favorable environment for the aging process of wine. Copper containers, such as this demi hectolitre, were commonly used in wineries, cellars, or vineyards to store and age wine.

Featuring two brass handles, a brass spigot and aged wood slat supports. A beautiful decorative piece for your home. Some denting and wear noted consistent with age and use.
